CBR TV @ CCI: Lauren Montgomery, Sam Liu on Animating “Batman: Year One”

“Batman: Year One” directors Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu discuss their animated adaptation of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s seminal comic book aboard the CBR Yacht at Comic-Con International: San Diego. The duo discuss the influence of Mazzuchelli’s art, the film’s level of violence and their attempt to ground Gotham in reality.

From there, the Montgomery navigates the delicate nature of Catwoman’s character and bringing her to the screen in the film and the accompanying short starring Eliza Dushku. The pair then discuss their past DC adaptations and how, despite their experience, each project presents its own unique challenges and it never gets easier, which also helps them keep their edge.
