Why The Russos Are The Best Thing to Happen to the MCU Since Joss Whedon
Mike Allred came aboard the CBR TV yacht at Comic-Con International in San Diego to discuss his career eclectic career, explaining why he sometimes steps away from the Madman universe to work on collaborative projects like “iZombie” and “X-Statics.” Allred then turns a critical eye towards himself, discussing his creative process and the differences between working on his creator owned projects and those that involve publisher-owned characters.
Allred also discusses 2012’s the twentieth anniversary of Madman and his plans to celebrate the character in an oversized anthology graphic novel, featuring all of the Madman pin-ups he’s commissioned over the last two decades, including the late, great Jack Kirby, whom Allred specifically calls out, remembering how a young, upstart creator got a pin-up of his character from a living legend.
Wrapping the interview, Allred talks about his music career, picking up the Rocketeer’s story right where creator Dave Stevens’ story left off and his interest in continuing to tell the tale of Cliff Secord and Betty.
