CBR TV @ NYCC: Alex Maleev on “Daredevil,” Brian Michael Bendis & More
CBR TV spoke with Eisner-Award-winning artist Alex Maleev about his career and how his and writer Brian Michael Bendis’ creative relationship has developed over the years, the experience of working on the “Spider-Woman” comic and motion comic project and what he would try differently if he ever approached a similar project in the future.
Maleev’s use of photo reference was also discussed, with the artist explaining how he casts real people in the roles of his characters rather than relying on a program like Poser which he says results in an unnatural stiffness, the use of photography as storyboarding and his favorite – and least favorite – things to draw.
The artist wrapped by talking about his desire to illustrate a children’s book, a result of having become a father, reading books to his son and realizing what he’d like to share with his kids.
