CBR TV @ CCI: Mignola Discusses Sending Hellboy to Hell, Joe Golem Movie

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola spoke with CBR TV during Comic-Con International in San Diego, discussing his recently deceased demonic hero and the plans he has in store for him in the months ahead.

But before diving into the underworld, Mignola spoke about Ron Perlman’s recent return to the role of Hellboy, not for a third movie, but to visit a child for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Once the topic shifts back to comics, the writer/artist talks about working on “Hellboy in Hell,” which he describes as the most fun he’s had since he first drew the character. Mignola talks about the artistic freedom he’s discovering as he’s illustrating a place he’s creating from whole cloth rather than referring to real-world places and things, “warning” fans that this, being an ongoing series rather than a mini, is structured as a different type of tale than longtime readers are used to.

Finally, Mignola talks briefly about the recent Hollywood optioning of his and co-writer Christopher Golden’s “Joe Golem and the Drowning City” novel, with Alex Proyas attached to direct the potential big-screen adaptation.
