Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
“Beanworld” cartoonist Larry Marder has worn many hats in the industry, and earlier this year he sat down with CBR’s Jonah Weiland at WonderCon 2013 iN Anaheim to discuss his comic book history and where he sees the industry going in the future. Marder talks about viewing comic books as both an industry and an art form, the changing face of comics retail from specialty shops to pop culture store and the derisiveness of digital comics. He also shares his thoughts on the symbiotic nature of comics and other ancillary markets right now, and how many companies and creators need that relationship to survive. Finally, the cartoonist gets back to his roots by discussing the future of “Beanworld” as he works on the fourth volume, how it functions as a kind of therapy for him, and why no one will ever make a movie from it.
